Jobless/Web want-ads rate low in Islands

Hawai'i remains one of the lowest states in terms of the number of unemployed people compared to online advertised job vacancies, according to a report from the Conference Board.

The New York-based business group said Hawai'i tied for having the 10th-lowest supply-demand rate, with there being 1.2 unemployed people to every online want-ad. That compared with the national rate of 2.15. There were 1,055 online want ads posted in Hawai'i in April.

The report also said Honolulu was one of only three metropolitan areas of 52 examined where the number of advertised vacancies increased from a year earlier. The other two cities were Milwaukee and Rochester.
