A 47-foot fishing vessel remained grounded this morning on coral and rocks at the entrance to Kewalo Marine Basin.

Coast Guard Petty Officer Third Class Angela Henderson said five crewmembers were aboard the "Robin" when it went aground about 11:30 p.m. Thursday.

The crew hailed the Coast Guard on an emergency radio channel to declare an emergency and then used a dinghy that was aboard the boat to take crewmembers to shore. No one was injured in the accident, Henderson said.

"There was about 400 gallons of No. 2 diesel fuel aboard the vessel when it went aground and so far, none of it has touched the water," Henderson said.

Penco, a private environmental services company, is attempting to remove the fuel from the boat, which was also laden with about 8,000 pounds of fish when it went aground, Henderson said. She said the boat is stuck on the 'ewa side of the harbor entrance in front of the oceanographic research laboratory.

Removing the boat is the responsibility of the owner although the state can step in to take charge if the owner is unable to remove it in a timely manner.
