On May 12, the U.S. Postal Service will release a stamp honoring bestselling author James A. Michener as part of its Distinguished Americans series, the Postal Service said in a news release.

Michener, (1907-1997), was the bestselling author of more than 40 books, including Hawai'i.

Michener is best remembered for his novels, often multigenerational sagas that focus on the history of a specific place while spanning vast periods of time.

Created by Mark Summers, the stamp art is based on a photograph of Michener from the late 1970s.

The stamp will be 59 cents, the first-class mail letter two-ounce price.
