Cleanup planned for Kailua, Lanikai beaches

Advertiser Staff

Volunteers are planning a cleanup of Kailua and Lanikai beaches May 25 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

"Kailua and Lanikai's beaches are some of the most beautiful beaches in the world and are treasures of O'ahu," Egmar Klemmer said in announcing the 4th Annual Kailua Beach Cleanup. "The beach cleanup effort will help maintain the beauty and natural habitat for fish and marine life."

As an incentive, Kailua Sailboards & Kayaks Inc. is offering vouchers for one free half-day rental of a kayak to anyone who volunteers to work two or more hours at the cleanup. Klemmer is president of the company making the offer.

Other Kailua-based businesses will be offering prizes for hourly drawings.

Data collected from this year's beach cleanup will be sent to the Ocean Conservancy and included in a national report.

Anyone wishing to volunteer should report to the Kailua boat ramp between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. May 25 or call Kailua Sailboards & Kayaks at 262-2555 for further information.
