University of Hawaii sophomore catcher Katie Grimes, who batted 5-for-8 last week, was named the Western Athletic Conference softball Hitter of the Week.

Grimes, a Tampa, Fla. native, helped the Rainbow Wahine (36-17, 10-7 WAC) sweep Utah State in the regular season finale.

In the Game 1, Grimes hit an RBI single in the bottom of the sixth to help UH pull away from the Aggies in a crucial three-run inning to win 5-2. In the series' second game, Grimes came through with a two-out, RBI single through the leftside of the infield to score the game's third run in a 3-0 win. Then in the series finale, she launched her third home run of the season in the second inning.

Last season, Grimes was named WAC Freshman of the Year and was a second-team All-WAC catcher.

The Rainbow Wahine will host the WAC Softball Tournament, which will be held Wednesday through Saturday.

UH, a No. 3 seed, will take on No. 4 seed, Louisiana Tech Wednesday in the 7 p.m. feature game.
