KANE'OHE
Glass-bottom boat tours offer Kane'ohe Bay trivia

Residents can see Kane'ohe Bay through a glass-bottom boat on cultural tours at 9 and 10:30 a.m., and at 12:30 and 2 p.m. May 10 beginning at He'eia Kea Pier.

The tours are sponsored by the Ko'olaupoko Hawaiian Civic Club. With nine ahupua'a touching the bay, the tours are part of the club's outreach program to educate people about the rich history, heritage and culture of the Kane'ohe Bay area.

Tour leaders include Hawaiian fisherman and cultural practitioner Uncle Jerry Kaluhiwa, who assisted scientists with the research of Hawaiian limu in the bay, and Auntie Rocky Kaluhiwa, a cultural practitioner whose family has lived in the area for generations.

Donations are suggested: $10 for passengers 12 years and older and $5 for children.

To make reservations, call 235-8111 or e-mail malamapono@aol.com.
