Michael Harris, who directed the PBS Hawaii/KHET special "Jimmy Borges: After Dark," is an Emmy nominee for that superb jazz show. But Harris competing against himself, because "Lantern Floating Hawai'i," his KGMB 9 special, also is in the running, in the live or live-to-tape/post production director's category of the Northern California Emmy awards this Saturday at the Palace of Fine Arts in SFO. Numerous other Island TV writers, reporters and techies are nominated, but since Harris' show with Borges has an entertainment link, we're flagging it here. "It's an honor to be associated in any way with an Emmy nomination," crooner Borges said of the nod. Harris also brings sunlight to my mornings — he is director of "Sunrise on KGMB9" weekday mornings. For the full list, go to emmys.tv. ...

WHEE, THE PEOPLE: At the naming-of-the-park ceremony in Mililani honoring the late police chief Michael Nakamura, his close chums and fellow Farrington High School grads Cha Thompson and Karen Keawehawai'i attended. And guess which two stood tall and proud, singing the maroon and white Alma Mater? ...

By the way, the aforementioned Thompson has less stress and a wee bit more time now, since her course work at Hawai'i Pacific University is pau. Her family (husband Jack, in particular) and her Tihati Productions 'ohana are happy — and proud. ...

Actress Heather Locklear, here for filming of Lifetime's "Flirting With 40," was enjoying the Polynesian ambiance of Holokai Grill at Waikiki Beach Walk last week. Ditto, Mayor Mufi Hannemann, at another time. ...

HITHER 'N' YON: Cyril Pahinui, the Grammy-nominated singer-guitarist, is planning a tribute to his legendary singer-guitarist dad, Gabby Pahinui, Aug. 9 in Waimanalo. Stay tuned. ...

Lanai Tabura, the local DJ, was in Los Angeles last week for a taping of "Jimmy Kimmel Live," the late-night ABC show. His cohort, Mental Mahu (Wade Dupont) was also there "and they brought him on stage, as an opening act, to sing a song," said Lanai. "They were playing 'Tiny Bubbles,' but Wade asked to do Frank Sinatra's 'That's Life.'" The reworked version had Hawai'i related lyrics, and now they're waiting to see if and when that segment airs. ...

SIGHT 'EMS: Kellie Harris and her Compadres Bar & Grill staff hosted the kick-off brunch for The Advertiser's Kids Day, the benefit for Parents And Children Together slated tomorrow, with our supporters from radio, TV, show biz and other walks of life selling the special edition. Joey Caldarone sang "One Last Kiss" from "Bye Bye Birdie," which opens Thursday at Army Community Theatre (he's Conrad Birdie), but not the ditty that begins with "Kids, I don't know what's wrong with these kids today." Nothing wrong with the kids who entered the essays, poems and artwork this year in record numbers, according to PACT's Norma Spierings, proud of the winners who responded to this year's theme of "The Ocean and Me." Winners received family four-packs to attend tonight's opening of "Cirque Dreams Jungle Fantasy" at Blaisdell Concert Hall, which should be oceans of fun. ...

And "Cirque's" advance team — comprised of Marcello Balestracci, Vladimir Dovgan, Anatoliy Yeniy, Zachary Carroll and Nazar Skladanyi, has been making the rounds — visiting the Honolulu Zoo, the keiki playroom at Kapi'olani Medical Center, and Kahala Mall (where gorgeous sequined costumes are on display). ...

Have you seen "Forgetting Sarah Marshall" yet? This is the Jason Segal bare-it-all comedy, largely filmed at the Turtle Bay Resort and loaded with Hawaiian music in the soundtrack. And on screen, too. Branscombe Richmond appears as Keoki, the menacing barkeep; and if you check the background, you'll spot local band Go Jimmy Go's Fishbowl Eyes promotional posters in a few scenes. But you can see (and hear) GJG live when they guest with John Brown's Body at 9 p.m. Thursday at Pipeline Cafe. Ooklah the Moc also performs. ...

FINALLY: Yep, we goofed in last Thursday's column regarding "American Idol." And whoa, so many of you readers were quick to react. We think it will come down to a derby of the Davids — David Cook versus David Archuleta — so we apologize for stating that David Cook was dumped (we meant to say Michael Johns, though some readers-callers thought we were thinking of Kristy Lee Cook). One e-mailer smartly opined, "Were U having a Paula Abdul moment?" No, but moving right along, we think Jason Castro will bid adieu this week, then Syesha Mercado, to set up the dueling Davids — must-see TV. And while Cook looks, sings and swaggers like an idol, we think America will pick Archuleta. ...
