Harpist, 16, from 'Iolani to give concert

'Iolani junior Melody Rose Lindsay, 16, will give a free encore concert, "Harping Around the World," at 7 p.m. May 31 at Central Union Church, 1660 S. Beretania St.

Melody Rose Lindsay will present an encore performance the program she will play this summer in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. She was chosen by the World Harp Congress Association to represent the USA at the 2008 World Harp Congress Focus on Youth program. In addition, she was awarded a Deane Sherman Fellowship to attend the Congress and perform at the newly constructed Bimhuis Muziekgebouw aan 't IJ in Amsterdam on July 18.

Her harp program which includes Marcel Grandjany's work for virtuoso harp, "Fantaisie," and an arrangement of Gershwin's "American in Paris" and "Rhapsody in Blue" by Eleanor Fell. She will also feature music from countries around the world and play and sing one of her own compositions, "Thoughts on Two Themes of

Tenderness," which includes the melody from Keali'i Reichel's "Kawaipunahele."
