Advertiser Staff

An elderly man pulled from Hanauma Bay died today, an Emergency Medical Services official said.

Lifeguards pulled a man, estimated to be in his late 60s to early 70s, from the water at Hanauma Bay at 12:11 p.m. and performed CPR until paramedics arrived, said city Emergency Services spokesman Bryan Cheplic.

Paramedics took the man to Straub Clinic & Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at about 12:30 p.m.

The Honolulu medical examiner's office will perform an autopsy tomorrow to determine cause and manner of death. Release of the man's name is being withheld pending confirmation of his identity.
