HECO repairs on downed line to affect Likelike traffic

Advertiser Staff

One lane of traffic in both directions will be closed on the Kane'ohe side of Wilson Tunnel tomorrow and Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. for Hawaiian Electric Co. repair work on a broken 138-kilovolt transmission line that fell on two vehicles today at 9 a.m.

HECO spokesman Darren Pai said no one was injured and service was not affected in today's incident. The company is investigating what caused the high-voltage line, which brings power from West O'ahu over the mountains to Windward O'ahu, to break, Pai said.

The planned utility work on Likelike Highway will be performed, weather permitting, Pai said.

Hawaiian Electric will be using appropriate traffic-control measures and special-duty police officers to ensure safe access through and around the construction area.
