PUNCHBOWL
Mothers with infants encouraged to get active

Moms with babies under 1 year old are invited to join a new program at the Cancer Research Center of Hawai'i designed to increase physical activity.

The program, Na Mikimiki ("the active ones"), aims to fight sedentary lifestyles, which can lead to cancer, heart disease and diabetes.

Participants in the program will be tested for their levels of physical activity over an 18-month period, provided with resources to help them get active and given $60 in gift certificates.

The center is looking for 268 mothers who do not exercise regularly.

Participants must be O'ahu residents between 18 and 45, with infants from 2 months to 12 months old. The moms should be healthy enough to walk briskly.

To join or for more information, call 441-8199 or e-mail namikimiki@crch.hawaii.edu.
