Aloha Section PGA pros will give free 10-minute lessons this month in conjunction with the 11th annual Play Golf America PGA Free Lesson Month.

Pros all over the state are supporting the promotion. To find one in your area, go to www.PlayGolfAmerica.com. Contact numbers are also provided so golfers can schedule the lesson ahead.

Nike will donate $1 for every lesson (up to 15,000) to the Tiger Woods Foundation. Every golfer who takes a lesson and sends in the lesson card will be entered to win a golf getaway or one of 100 other gifts.

JUNIOR PGA ENTRIES

Entries for the 2008 Aloha Section Junior PGA Championship are being accepted. The tournament will be at Ka'anapali June 27 and 28. Golfers ages 9 and up play 18 holes each day, with younger players going nine.

Winners of the 13-18 boys' and girls' divisions join more than 150 of the nation's top juniors in The PGA of America's flagship junior event, the Junior PGA Championship, Aug. 13 to 16 at TPC River's Bend in Ohio.

Applications can be obtained by calling the Aloha Section PGA at 593-2230 or, on neighbor islands, toll free at 877-742-6248. Players can also register online at http://aloha.pga.com. Entry fee is $35 for 12- under and $50 for 13-18. Entry deadline is June 19.

TJ Kua and Kristina Merkle represented the Aloha Section last year. Merkle finished 21st and former Hilo resident Kimberly Kim was second. Stephanie Kono won the national title in 2005 and Reynold Lee captured the boys championship in 1988.

The PGA Junior Series will also return to Hawai'i this summer, at Kahili on Maui June 22 to 24. The last time the series was in Hawai'i was 2005 at Turtle Bay when Chan Kim and Kayla Morinaga won their divisions. More information and online registration are available at www.pgajuniorseries.com.
