Refuse center reopens with improvements

The Olowalu Recycling and Refuse Center will reopen today for residential refuse and recycling.

The center had been closed for improvements that include paving, concrete pads for roll-off containers, safety rails and educational signs, according to the Department of Environmental Management.

Green waste, used motor oil, glass, plastic bottles with necks, plastic bags, aluminum cans, rinsed food cans and cardboard are among the residential materials accepted at no charge. Tires and auto batteries will be accepted for a fee.

Olowalu is not a HI-5 redemption center.
