Punahou wins fifth straight state baseball crown

Reece Kiriu pitched a three-hitter with eight strikeouts and no walks and Punahou scored all of its runs in the bottom of the second inning tonight to beat Saint Louis, 4-0, for its fifth straight Wally Yonamine Foundation Baseball State Championship.

The Buffanblu finished with a 16-5-1 record in the regular and postseason.

Kiriu, a senior right-hander, allowed only an infield single in the second inning, a single to right in the fourth and a single to center in the sixth.

The Crusaders (20-5) advanced only one runner to second base, in the second inning.

Punahou scored four runs in the second on four hits, one error and a wild pitch.
