Kailua domestic incident leads to assault charge

Prosecutors yesterday accused a Kailua man with physically assaulting a woman during a domestic argument causing the alleged victim to suffer a bone fracture.

Maitland Joseph Spencer, 47, was charged at 10:30 p.m., nearly 19 hours after he was arrested at a Kailua-area residence. Spencer was charged with second-degree assault, abuse of a family/household member and two counts of second-degree terroristic threatening.

According to Hawai'i Criminal Justice Data Center records, Spencer is 5 feet 10 and weighs 275 pounds. The injured woman, 37, had intervened in a verbal argument between Spencer and his girlfriend, 37, police said.

Spencer is being held in lieu of $19,000 bail by police pending his initial appearance tomorrow at District Court. His criminal record includes four convictions.
