Maui cane fire burns 25 acres

A cane fire near Maui's Kahului Heliport, which started shortly before 1 p.m. today, was brought under control at 2:10 p.m.

Officials said the fire burned 25 acres. No structures were threatened or injuries reported.

Thirteen county firefighters assisted by a unit from the State Airports Fire Department fought the fire with assistance of heavy equipment and a water tanker from Hawaiian Commercial and Sugar Co.

Lelepio Road was closed to traffic during the firefight.
