Extras sought for DVD film 'The Reef'

By Mike Gordon

Here's your chance to go straight to DVD: The producers of a new movie filming on O'ahu — "The Reef" — are looking for extras to appear for a nightclub scene in the action feature.

The scene will be shot from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday at Pipeline Cafe, said Sara Berrisford, a producer on the project.

There's no guarantee that you'll get on camera, but it beats working.

"It's not paid, it's just for fun," Berrisford said. "They can come and go as they please."

There won't be a band, "but we are going to have a wet T-shirt contest," she said.

Because of the nightclub setting, extras must be 21 or older.

"The Reef," a direct-to-DVD film from MGM and Brookwell McNamara Entertainment, stars Chris Carmack and Laura Vandervoort as a couple with a local dive shop and David Anders as the bad guy who hires them for an underwater job.

The film, directed by Stephen Herek, will be shot largely off the Leeward Coast.
