HILO
Public meeting on UH's Mauna Kea plan tonight

The University of Hawai'i will hold a public meeting tonight to seek input on a Comprehensive Management Plan for Mauna Kea.

Information will be provided on the purpose of the proposed plan and key management issues raised over the past few years. Organizers will also ask for community recommendations on appropriate cultural and environmental management guidelines for the Mauna Kea Science Reserve.

Management of Mauna Kea has been a growing controversy in recent years. The mountain is considered sacred to Native Hawaiians, but is also one of the best sites on the planet for development of world-class telescopes.

The meeting will be at Hilo High School at 5 p.m. For more information, visit www.MaunaKeaCMP.com.
