North Kona road repair project set to begin today

Advertiser Staff

Hawaii County will be doing roadwork on two streets in North Kona, beginning today.

The shoulders along both sides of Ka'iminani Drive in Kona Palisades will be repaired, and Walua Road will be resurfaced. Work will be performed between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. weekdays.

County workers will repair the shoulders of Ka'iminani drive from the recreation center to Kakahiaka Street. Work is expected to take two days — today and Thursday. Both lanes will be open to motorists. Periodic delays of 10-15 minutes are to be expected, as trucks and equipment enter Ka'iminani drive.

Resurfacing Walua Road begins Thursday, May 22, and is expected to be completed by Friday, May 23. Both sides of the road between Kamehameha III and the end of the jogging path on Walua Road will be repaired.

Walua residents are asked to limit travel to their homes between the hours of 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. for the two days that roadwork occurs. The paving machinery is wide and it will take up most of the road, making it difficult for motorists to travel.

Residents on both Ka'iminani and Walua are requested to remove their cars the day before roadwork and to not park along both shoulders of the road until it is completed.
