Vog likely to hang around into the weekend

Light and variable winds will continue through at least Friday and will favor a southwest direction near Kauai and Oahu, the National Weather Service said in its forecast for today.

Clouds and showers may form over interior and upslope areas, developing in the late morning each day and persisting through sundown, forecasters said.

Skies will gradually clear at night, with cool morning temperatures.

An approaching front will weaken as it approaches Kauai, but will bring a few showers to the Garden Island and Oahu late tonight and early Thursday.

The light winds will make for hazy conditions the new few days as vog lingers over the islands.

Trade winds are expected to gradually return early next week.

Here's how the next few days look at this point:

Tonight: Scattered showers, mainly before 7pm. Widespread haze. Partly cloudy, with a low around 67. South wind at 6 mph becoming northeast. Chance of precipitation is 30%.
