DHT off to see 'The Wizard of Oz' auditioners

Diamond Head Theatre is searching for a Dorothy and the denizens of "The Wizard of Oz," beginning May 29.

The musical, featuring the iconic "Over the Rainbow" tune, will be staged July 11 through 27 at DHT, with Rob Duval directing.

The show boasts notable tunes such as "If I Only Had a Heart," "Off to See the Wizard" and "Ding-Dong the Witch Is Dead," and features a gallery of legendary characters including the Cowardly Lion, the Tin Man and the Scarecrow.

Auditions will be a the DHT rehearsal hall at 520 Makapuu Ave. Details:

• The role of Dorothy, by appointment only, from 7 p.m. May 29. Call 733-0277 ext. 306, for a slot; those trying out must be or look 15 and sing "Rainbow" and also prepare an uptempo Broadway tune.; wear appropriate rehearsah closes and dance shoes.

• Open call for children, from 2 to 4 p.m. May 31. Be prepared to sing in your own key and bring Broadway-style sheet music; an accompanist will be provided. No transpositions on site, tapes, karaoke or a capella.

• Open call for adults, from 4 to 6 p.m. May 31. Be prepared to sing and bring Broadway-style sheet music and wear approriate clothing for dancing; bring dance shoes.

• Additioanl open call for adults, 2 p.m. June 1.

Scripts are available for perusal at the DHT box office but must be read on site.
