Vigil planned for Chinese quake victims

Advertiser Staff

The Chinese Students and Scholars Association at the University of Hawai'i is planning a vigil tomorrow night for victims of China's devastating earthquake.

The vigil will be 8:30-10 p.m. at the University Avenue Bus Stop A, said association president Jian Ma. He said the association has already collected about $5,000 in donations for the victims.

China officials have said the confirmed death toll from Monday's magnitude-7.9 earthquake had reached 19,509 and that deaths could rise to 50,000.
