Hawaii Kai driver arrested in pedestrian accident

A 54-year-old Hawaii Kai man has been arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of an intoxicant and first-degree negligent injury after he allegedly struck a pedestrian last night on Kalaniana'ole Highway fronting Outback Steakhouse.

Police arrested the man at 10:15 p.m. at Kalaniana'ole Highway and Keahole Street.

Police said the man's 2005 Infiniti was traveling eastbound on the highway when it struck a 28-year-old woman, who was not in a crosswalk. Police said the woman was trying to cross the highway toward a beach park.

She was taken to The Queen's Medical Center in critical condition last night .

The accident was reported at 8:46 p.m.

The man was arrested for investigation of driving under the influence and first-degree negligent injury.
