Old Moiliili banyan tree to be cut down

Advertiser Staff

A big, beloved banyan tree will be removed from KCAA Mother Rice Preschool in Mo'ili'ili tomorrow because it poses a safety risk.

The tree is at least 80 years old, and 60 feet high.

It will be taken out starting at 8 a.m. tomorrow.

The tree was damaged by wind last week, and arborists who inspected the tree said its large branches were in danger of falling.

The preschool said it will work with The Outdoor Circle to develop a tree-planting plan for the preschool property to help restore green to the site. To help the school with monetary or in-kind donations, call preschool president Christina Cox at 927-3115.
