Hoku shares rise after HECO news

Shares of Kapolei-based Hoku Scientific Inc. jumped 8.3 percent a day after Hawaiian Electric Co. disclosed it had won state Public Utilities Commission approval to have Hoku install a photovoltaic system on its Ward Avenue facility.

Shares rose 65 cents to $8.46 in Nasdaq Stock Market trading. Hoku's purchase-power agreement with HECO calls for it to install, own and operate photovoltaic system capable of generating 218 kilowatts.
