Kihei pedestrian dies of injuries

A 66-year-old Kihei woman died yesterday after a car struck her early in the morning, Maui police said.

The pedestrian, Juanita Baloaloa, was walking south on South Kihei Road about 100 feet south of Nohokai Street at 4:25 a.m. yesterday when she was hit by a white 1997 Lexus sedan traveling in the same direction, police said.

She was taken to the Maui Memorial Medical Center in critical condition and died hours later, police said.

The driver, a 56-year-old Kihei woman, was not injured, police said.
