Egan Inoue wins mixed martial arts comeback fight

Egan Inoue of Honolulu made a successful comeback to mixed martial arts, defeating Arizona's Hans Marrero Jr. by TKO in the first round tonight.

The bout was the main event of the X-1 World Events "Legends" card at the Blaisdell Center Arena.

Inoue worked his way on top of Marrero and then unloaded a series of punches and kicks. The referee stopped it 59 seconds into the first round.

Inoue, 42, was fighting for the first time since December 2003. He improved to 13-8. Marrero dropped to 15-7.

In the co-main event, Brandon Wolff of Kailua defeated Chad Reiner of Nebraska by split decision to win the X-1 welterweight (170 pounds) championship.

In another title bout, Alaska's Richie Whitson defeated Pearl City's Ray "Braddah" Cooper to win the X-1 lightweight (155 pounds) championship.

Whitson won it by knocking out Cooper with punches, 3:54 into the first round.
