BUSINESS BRIEFS
United, Hawaiian Air now partners

Advertiser Staff and News Services

United is adding Hawaiian Airlines as a codeshare partner, the two carriers announced yesterday.

The move allows United to replace previous partner Aloha Airlines, which went out of business in March. United says it expects the flights under the codeshare pact to begin by the end of summer.

Codeshare deals allow airlines to place their codes and sell connecting seats on each others' flights. United currently offers 18 daily flights between Hawai'i and the mainland USA, something United says is "more than any other carrier." United customers will be able to fly to Hawai'i on United and connect to Hawaiian Air flights within the state. United customers can also earn and redeem miles on Hawaiian's interisland flights.

The University of Hawai'i-Manoa Shidler College of Business has received a gift of $150,000 from Young Brothers, Ltd./Hawaiian Tug & Barge and Maui Petroleum and Hawaii Petroleum to provide scholarships to Neighbor Island students enrolling in the school's master of business administration program.

"We are extremely grateful for Young Brothers/Hawaiian Tug & Barge and Maui Petroleum and Hawaii Petroleum for their scholarship support," said V. Vance Roley, dean of the Shidler College of Business.

Young Brothers/Hawaiian Tug & Barge and Maui Petroleum and Hawaii Petroleum are subsidiaries of Seattle-based Saltchuk Resources Inc. Saltchuk on Wednesday completed its acquisition of Aloha Air Cargo.
