Browse, buy art designed to wear

The second annual MAMo Wearable Art Show, a show and sale of designer wear, will be held at 5:30 p.m. today at the Kona Moku Ballroom of the Waikiki Beach Marriott Resort & Spa.

Coordinated by kumu hula Vicky Holt Takamine, the Maoli Arts Month event will showcase art that Native Hawaiians wear for ceremonial rituals, cultural practices and adornments. An array of traditional and contemporary garments will be included such as tapping kapa, feather work, shell jewelry, tattoo, weaponry, weaving, carving and more.

A tribute to Allen Akina, the late artist and fashion designer, will feature rare art and designs by Akina.

Participating designers include Dalani Tanahy, G. Umi Kai, Ka'iulani Prem, Kealopiko, Lovena West for Allen Akina Designs, Maile Andrade, Marques Marzan, Moana Eisele, Sol Apio and others.

Entertainment will be by Nina Keali'iwahamana and Robert Cazimero and Halau Na Kamalei.

The dinner event includes the fashion show and music and post-show coffee and tea time on the lanai, when folks can purchase garments and meet and greet the designers.

A silent auction is also on tap.
