WAILUKU
Swimming, lifeguard programs for youngsters

Sign-ups are under way for the county-sponsored Learn-to-Swim and Junior Lifeguard programs.

Swimming classes, for ages 4 to 10, will be held Upcountry and in Wailuku and Lahaina. Junior Lifeguard programs, for ages 11 to 17 and 13 to 17, will be held in Kahului, Kihei, Lahaina and Hana and on Lana'i.

Strong swimming skills are recommended for Junior Lifeguard courses, with most requiring a swim test at the time of registration. There is a suggested donation of $15 to the Hawaiian Lifeguard Association-Maui Chapter for each course.

Learn-to-Swim registration is from 2 to 4 p.m. weekdays at pool sites. Register for Junior Lifeguard programs at pool sites or with the Hana Bay lifeguard.

For schedules, call the Upcountry Aquatic Center, 572-1479; Kahului Pool, 270-7410; New Wailuku Pool, 270-7411; Lahaina Aquatic Center, 661-7611; for Hana, 270-6138; or for Lana'i, 565-3939.
