Utah Valley shuts down baseball Rainbows, 2-0

Advertiser Staff

Marcus Moore fired a three-hitter to lead Utah Valley over Hawai'i, 2-0, tonight to take 2 of 3 from the non-conference series before 2,917 at Les Murakami Stadium.

Moore (10-5) allowed two runs, three hits and five walks with four strikeouts for his sixth complete game for the Wolverines (17-36-1) in their coach Steve Gardner's final game after 18 seasons at UV.

Matt Daly (5-4) allowed two runs, three hits and seven walks with seven strikeouts in 5 1/3 innings for the Rainbows (27-29), who played their final home game of the season.

The Wolverines broke the scoreless deadlock in the fourth. Scott Croshaw reached on a soft line single just off the glove of a diving first baseman Alex Myers and Kevin Arendse walked. Aaron Brady flied out to deep center, allowing Croshaw to take third, where he scored on Jake Rickebach's squeeze to make it 1-0.

Utah Valley increased its lead in the sixth in chasing Daly. A single by Croshaw and walks to Arendse and Rickenbach loaded the bases with one out, ending Daly's night for Cory Kahn. Tyler Garretson grounded to second for a force at second, scoring Croshaw to make it 2-0.
