Rainbows will open against N.M. State in WAC baseball tourney

Hawai'i will open Thursday's Western Athletic Conference tournament opener against New Mexico State, 10 a.m., Hawai'i time, in Ruston, La.

The Rainbows (18-14 WAC) pulled into a tie for second with Nevada (18-14), which was swept in a four-game series by San Jose State. But because UH won 3 of 4 against the Wolf Pack during the regular season, it won the tie-breaker for the second seed in the six-team tournament.

In other tournament openers, top-seeded Fresno State (21-11) will play sixth seeded Sacramento State (14-17) and third-seeded Nevada (18-14) will play fourth-seeded San Jose State (17-14).

Missing the tournament is host Louisiana Tech.
