NEED FOR SPEED

If amusement park fever hits you this summer, here are three Vegas thrill rides:

  • Big Shot on top of the Stratosphere launches riders to the top of the 1,049 feet Stratosphere Tower in 2.5 seconds. Riders then instantly drop from the top of the tower before floating back to the launch pad. The ride costs $16.95 per person and includes admission to the Stratosphere Tower.

  • Roller Coaster at New York has corkscrews, twists and hills speeding around replicas of NYC landmarks, including the Statue of Liberty and New York Harbor in cars designed to look like taxicabs. Each ride is $14 per person; second-time riders can purchase a ticket for $7.

  • FastKart Speedway at Sport Center Las Vegas has an outdoor go-cart track filled with exciting hairpin turns. Drivers race with up to nine other people. Five-minute sessions, $10; 20-minute sessions, $27.
