Three escape while on furlough

Police last night were searching for three people who climbed through an unsecured window at a Haui Ola Transition home Saturday night and remained missing yesterday.

The two 18-year-old men and a 17-year-old boy, on furlough from the Hawaii Youth Correctional Facility, are believed to have escaped between 9:30 and 10:15 p.m.


ASSAULT VICTIM DIES; 2 MEN HELD

A 58-year-old Honolulu man died yesterday at The Queen's Medical Center following a reported assault in the Waikiki area, the Honolulu medical examiner's office said. An autopsy is scheduled for today.

Two men were arrested yesterday in connection with the incident, which police said occurred shortly after midnight near the intersection of Kalakaua and Paoakalani avenues. The reported assault victim died at about 10:25 a.m., officials said.

Benjamin Pada, 18, was arrested on suspicion of second-degree assault, second-degree robbery and third-degree theft. Keahi Donovan Acasia, 19, was arrested on suspicion of first-degree assault and second-degree robbery. Both men live in the Wai'anae area, police said.


2 OFFICERS INJURED BREAKING UP FIGHT

Two police officers were treated and released from Pali Momi Medical Center yesterday after breaking up a large fight in the 'Aiea area Saturday night.

Police said that at 10:45 p.m they were called to investigate a complaint of a fight involving about 20 people.

Two men, ages 24 and 25, were arrested on suspicion of assault against a law enforcement officer after one reportedly punched a male officer in the jaw while the officer was trying to break up the fight.

The second officer, a woman, was also injured while trying to calm the situation and disperse the crowd.

The two suspects were also treated and released from the Pali Momi Medical Center. All four were reportedly in good condition.


MAN ARRESTED IN MURDER ATTEMPT

A 22-year-old Waimanalo area man was arrested Saturday night on suspicion of second-degree attempted murder after reportedly attempting to choke his 48-year-old female companion.

Police said the incident occurred about 5:30 p.m. The woman reportedly escaped, and the suspect was arrested nearby a short time later.
