Deadline today to pre-register for Hawaii dance show

By Wayne Harada
Advertiser Entertainment Writer

Auditions for the second season of "Destination: Groove Dance Hawaii" will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Paliku Theatre, Windward Community College. But applicants must pre-register by today.

The reality series, created by Christine Yasunaga, a former original company member of Broadway's "The Lion King," is inspired by "So You Think You Can Dance" and "America's Best Dance Crew." For its second season, the show will be televised at 7 p.m. every Sunday, beginning Sept. 7, on OC16. New hosts are Amber Stone and iNTREPiD.

Only 200 dancers will be auditioned; today is the deadline to pre-register. An application is available at www.destinationgroove.com.

"It's a great opportunity for Hawai'i's dancers to showcase their talent before celebrity judges and to win one-of-a-kind opportunities to start a professional dance career," said Yasunaga, now a teacher at 'Iolani School.

Guest judges from New York and Los Angeles will tap prospects, who will compete for a cash prize, a dance scholarship, a trip to Los Angeles and an audition at Walt Disney World in Orlando.
