Punahou president: State 'shares in this achievement'

 •  Punahou athletics ranked best in U.S.

Punahou School topped Mater Dei of Santa Ana, Calif. — Colt Brennan's alma mater — for the title of Sports Illustrated's "nation's No 1 high school athletic program" the magazine said today.

The article, "Fast Times at Punahou" is posted on the magazine's Web site — SI.com — and will appear in the May 26 issue of the magazine on newsstands this week.

"We are honored to receive this recognition from Sports Illustrated and believe that the state of Hawai'i shares in this achievement," said Jim Scott, president of Punahou School, in a release that followed the SI posting.

"Island athletes continue to break new ground — in high school and college sports, on national sports teams and at the Olympics," Scott said.

Punhou was fourth in SI's 2005 rankings.
