Best Life, a men's magazine, has ranked Honolulu the top city to raise a family.

The magazine cites low unemployment and relatively high per-pupil spending by the island's public schools in its decision. It also notes the large number of beaches on O'ahu.

Editor Stephen Perrine says the magazine also considered sprawl, the crime rate, median home value and the number of parks and museums in arriving at its list of the 100 best cities.

The top 10 cities include San Diego, Calif.; Des Moines, Iowa; Billings, Mont.; Madison, Wis.; and Minneapolis, Minn.

The magazine says Philadelphia; Flint, Mich.; and Dayton, Ohio, are among the 10 worst cities in the country to raise a family.
