Candle caused Nanakuli house fire

Advertiser Staff

An unattended candle that was in an enclosed lanai being used as a bedroom was the cause of a blaze that caused extensive damage last night to a Nanakuli house that was home to eight people, fire investigators have determined.

The blaze at the single-story structure on Mokiawe Street, near Nanakuli High School, was reported about 9:15 p.m. and put under control by firefighters about 9:45.

Fire officials estimated damage to the six-bedroom home at $400,000 to the structure and $30,000 to the contents.
