Hawaiian Airlines said today it will increase its lowest interisland fare by $10 to $64.

The state's largest carrier also said it will add a $35 fuel surcharge on all flights to the Mainland. Other oversees destinations such as Sydney, Australia; Pago Pago and Papeete, Tahiti, will see fare increases between $40 and $55 each way.

The increases go into effect on Tuesday.

Discount carrier go! did not immediately match the fare increase.

Hawaiian blamed the rising cost of fuel, which has doubled in the past year.

"Fuel prices are now 100 percent higher than a year ago, so unfortunately just like every other business that consumes oil, we must raise our fares to help offset some of this increase," said Keoni Wagner, Hawaiian's vice president of public affairs.
