NORTH KOHALA
Californian indicted in crash that killed son, 7

A California woman has been indicted on charges of first-degree negligent homicide for allegedly driving while intoxicated and causing a crash in North Kohala that killed her 7-year-old son on Sept. 30, 2007.

A Kona grand jury indicted Elaine Meyer, 29, on charges of first-degree negligent homicide and operating a vehicle under the influence of an intoxicant in the death of Razak Meyer of Carlsbad, Calif. If convicted, Meyer faces up to 10 years in prison.

Police said Meyer was traveling west on Kohala Ranch Road at 10:26 a.m. in a Pontiac G6 four-door sedan when she lost control, ran off the right side of the road and overturned.

Elaine Meyer suffered serious injuries in the crash, and her 4-year-old son and a 6-year-old daughter suffered minor injuries.
