Gayle Zander traveled to every continent while following her globetrotting airline executive husband.

The Kansas City native lived in Paris, London and Honolulu before moving to Kennesaw, Ga., to retire with her husband, former Aloha Airlines chief executive Glenn Zander.

On Sunday, Gayle Zander died after a seven-year battle with cancer.

She was 60.

Gayle Zander came to Honolulu in 1994 when her husband was named CEO of Aloha. Glenn Zander stepped down in 2004 and the couple moved to Georgia after Gayle was diagnosed with bronchial carcinoid disease, a rare form of cancer.

During her time in Hawai'i, her personal pursuits included all things having to do with plants and gardening.

She was a member of the Garden Club of Honolulu and collected antiques, including 18th-century English furniture and Chinese export porcelain.

Zander is survived by her husband; son, Patrick; grandson, Bennett; mother, Helen Lively of Kansas City; and sisters, Angela Bianco of Flower Mound, Texas, and Janelle Lindshield of Overland Park, Kan.

Services will be held tomorrow in Kansas City. Flowers can be sent to Park Lawn Funeral Home and Cemetery at 8251 Hillcrest Road, Kansas City, MO 64138.

Donations can also be made in her name to the Caring for Carcinoid Foundation, One Kendall Square, PMB 180, Cambridge, MA 02139.
