Gallon of regular now tops $4

The average price of a gallon of regular gasoline in Hawaii has passed $4 a gallon for the first time — to $4.005, according to AAA.

One month ago, the average price of a gallon of regular was only $3.77, according to AAA. Last year, it was only $3.40.

Honolulu's average price for a gallon of regular is only $3.90. But the state-wide average was driven up primarily by prices on Maui, which are now averaging $4.32 per gallon in Wailuku, according to AAA.

The average price of a gallon of premium is now $4.31 statewide.
