Kate Growney, creator of the Saffron James fragrance line based on Hawai'i flowers — pua kenikeni, ginger and plumeria — makes a public appearance from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. today at Nordstrom Ala Moana, in the cosmetics department. The Hawai'i Preparatory School grad has been traveling all over the country promoting the popular line while working on a new fragrance inspired by the fresh, complex scent of pakalana. Meanwhile, Saffron James has been receiving great press in national fashion magazines such as Lucky and Elle.

MIXMIX OPENS BOUTIQUE NEAR ALA MOANA

MixMix, that eclectic collection of clothes and accessories with Japanese edge and European sophistication, has opened a boutique across the street from Ala Moana Center in the Pacific Guardian Building, next door to Phiten. It's especially good news for men, who often are forgotten in Honolulu's merchandise mix. Belgium's Kris van Assche offers little unexpected details, Superfine sweaters from England are all about subtle style and Lad Musician redefines the T-shirt. The Veronique Branquinho silk blazer has "Island evening out on the town" written all over it.

For women, there are Rick Owens, Dries van Noten, McQueen by Alexander McQueen and some Diane von Furstenberg dresses we haven't seen anywhere else. The neon-bright girly shoes by Melissa are adorable and just $67. For those looking for the unusual, MixMix is a good match. The Bethel Street location, by the way, will become an outlet store.

ALLURE ADDS ITALIAN LINES

The Allure boutiques, purveyors of fine lingerie, swimwear and workout wear, have just added two new Italian swimwear lines to their offerings. Miss Bikini and Pin-Up Stars are only available in a handful of boutiques nationwide. The largest selection, according to owner Dan Muccia, will be at the Royal Hawaiian Center boutique.

Mind you, these bikinis are for the glam girl, not the surfer, paddler or triathlete.

TARYN ROSE TRUNK SHOW TODAY

When orthopedic surgeon Taryn Rose began to design upscale comfort shoes with high style, they gained a fanatic following. See what styles and materials are coming for fall, as the new fall line will be on view from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. today in the Neiman Marcus shoe salon.
