Maryknoll's Dolan captures Pan American kayak event

Maryknoll senior Ryan Dolan won the junior men's 500-meter kayak race Sunday at the Pan American Championships & Continental Olympic Qualifier in Montreal.

Dolan finished in 1 minute, 46.637 seconds. Canada's Shaun Fair was second in 1:48.637. Dolan was third in the junior men's 1,000 in 3:48.873 and second in the junior men's 200 in 40.043. He was also a member of the United States K-4 200 crew that finished third in 36.277.

In senior men's kayak events, Dolan's older brother Patrick, a 2006 Maryknoll graduate, was seventh in the 200 with a time of 40.355. Patrick Dolan was a member of the K-4 500 crew of Eric Abbott, Brandon Woods and Brady Bragg that finished fifth in 1:31.477. Woods is a 2002 Mid-Pacific graduate and Abbott is a 2006 Punahou graduate.

Abbott and Dolan were also members of the K-4 200 crew that was sixth in 37.524. Woods paddled for the K-4 1,000 crew that finished third in 3:00.153.


SOFTBALL

PREP CLASSIC THIS WEEK

The New City Nissan Goodwill Softball Classic will be held on Sunday and Monday at Patsy T. Mink Central O'ahu Regional Park.

The tournament features high school seniors from the O'ahu Interscholastic Association and the Interscholastic League of Honolulu.

Game times on Sunday are 5 and 7 p.m. Games times on Monday are 1 and 3 p.m. Admission is free.

OKINO WINS QUALIFIER

Cyd Okino, a 14-year-old Punahou School freshman, shot a 4-over-par 76 Wednesday at Wailua Golf Course on Kaua'i to qualify for the U.S. Women's Amateur Public Links Championship.

Allison Corpuz of Honolulu was runner-up with an 80.

The U.S. Public Links will be held June 16 to 21 at the Erin Hills Golf Course in Delafield, Wis.
