Memorial Day observances

TOMORROW

Hale'iwa: The Waialua Lions invite family, friends and the public to celebrate Memorial Day and honor North Shore military personnel, 10 a.m. at the obelisk at Hale'iwa Beach Park.

The names of fallen soldiers who served in World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War will be read. Family and friends of the fallen are invited to place a lei at the person's designated site.

Waikiki: 20th annual Memorial Day Service, 10 a.m., Waikiki Natatorium War Memorial, with U.S. Rep. Neil Abercrombie as featured speaker. Performances by 'Ale'a, Nalani Olds, Royal Hawaiian Band and more. A tribute to Nancy Bannick.

MONDAY

Punchbowl: Mayor's Memorial Day Ceremony, 8:30 a.m., National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific. Performances by the Honolulu Boy Choir, TOA and Royal Hawaiian Band; 21-gun salute, Hawai'i Air National Guard's 199th Squadron flying "missing man" formation.

Scheduled to attend are Mayor Mufi Hannemann, U.S. Sen. Daniel K. Akaka, U.S. Reps. Neil Abercrombie and Mazie Hirono, Lt. Gov. James "Duke" Aiona, and Adm. Timothy Keating, U.S. Pacific Command.

Parking is limited. Attendees are urged to use city shuttle buses leaving from the Alapa'i Express Bus Terminal from 7 to 8 a.m.
