PET PHOTOS SOUGHT FOR '09 CALENDAR

The Hawaiian Humane Society is now accepting pet photograph entries for its 2009 calendar.

A Humane Society judging panel will select the cover pet and top 13 pinup picks. All other photos entered will be featured in a calendar collage.

High-resolution digital pictures of pets (no people) may be uploaded through the Humane Society's Web site. Hard copy color photos — horizontal, 4 by 6 inches — and photos saved to CD may also be submitted with a completed Humane Society entry form. The Humane Society may refuse Polaroid snapshots, photos printed on plain paper and any photo that does not meet reproduction standards.

Each entry must be submitted by June 30 with a $15 nonrefundable donation per image. For more information, go to www .hawaiianhumane.org. Entry fees and calendar sales support the Hawaiian Humane Society.

Pet pinup finalists will be notified in July, and the calendar will be available in September.

KALA

TAG NO. 08-9796

What a stunning animal. You will be drawn to her inquisitive face and beautiful markings. And you would never guess this black and orange Calico is 11 years old. She is bright-eyed, sweet, friendly and doesn't appear to have missed many meals in her life. She is a big girl with a nice coat and tail. She could use regular brushing, but that's about it. Pretty Kala — an owner-surrender on May 10 — is in her prime, and good to go for another 11 years! She is free to any adopter age 60 or older.

KING

TAG NO. 08-9279

Can you believe anyone would let this cutie-pie go astray? Still, that's what happened, until he was picked up in a field on Cinco de Mayo. A black-and-brown, long-haired Chihuahua mix, King tips the scales at 7 pounds. He has one ear that goes mauka, while the other ear goes makai. If that alone doesn't endear him to you, his shimmering brown eyes certainly will. King has not been exposed to many things in his three years, so a gradual introduction to the wonders of dogdom is appropriate. King is skittish and sensitive, has a low pain threshold, and appears to be afraid of children. We believe King would blossom in an adults-only household with lots of gentleness and TLC.

JAVA

TAG NO. 08-8639

Java came to us as a stray on April 28, and one can only wonder how he ended up in that state. Thankfully, he seems none the worse for his experience as a homeless bunny and, in fact, is totally calm, cool and collected. Java is grey and white with big, brown eyes. He loves to be petted and handles extremely well. He would make an outstanding pet for some lucky family.

These animals may have found homes.
