Maui road projects this week

Advertiser Staff

Road projects resume on Maui today through Friday.

The State Department of Transportation said all projects are weather permitting.

HALEAKALA HIGHWAY

HALIIMAILE ROAD INTERSECTION (Night Work)

Detour of Haliimaile Road at the Haleakala Highway intersection in the Kihei-bound direction from 7 p.m. through 5 a.m. Wednesday morning for pavement resurfacing.

HONOAPIILANI HIGHWAY

CABLE INSTALLATIONS (Night Work)

Single lane closure on Honoapiilani Highway in the Lahaina-bound direction from the Scenic Lookout (Mile Point 8.6) to the Olowalu Tunnel (Mile Point 10.4) through Friday morningcfrom 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., nightly, for fiber optic cable installations (contractor permit work). During this closure, traffic will be contraflowed through the area in the remaining open lane.

MOKULELE HIGHWAY

NEW KIHEI-BOUND LANES TO OPEN TODAY

At approximately 12:30 p.m. today, the newly constructed Kihei-bound lanes on Mokulele Highway will be opened to traffic from the Maui Humane Society, 1/10 of a mile south of the Mehameha Loop intersection, to Piilani Highway.

After Kihei-bound traffic is shifted to the new lanes, the left lane on the Kahului-bound side (formerly the Kihei-bound lane) will be closed with traffic barricades and restriped from a two-way, opposing traffic lane pattern to a one-way lane pattern with two lanes heading in the Kahului-bound direction. Completion of the restriping of these lanes is anticipated in one to two weeks, weather-permitting.

Two new traffic signals will also be operational at the Mokulele Highway/Piilani Highway intersection and at the North Kihei Road/South Kihei Road intersection.

Motorists are advised to use caution while driving through these areas while familiarizing themselves with the new traffic patterns.
