Guam media director arrested

Associated Press

HAGATNA, Guam — A co-founder of the liberal Air America network who runs a media group on Guam has been detained on a Honolulu warrant that charges theft, money laundering, forgery and fraudulent use of a credit card.

Evan Montvel-Cohen was arrested at Guam International Airport on indictments by a grand jury in Honolulu.

Montvel-Cohen is the managing director of Sorensen Media Group.

He was ousted from Air America in 2004 amid questions over his investments in the network. New York City investigators later accused him and another man of accepting improper personal payments from a nonprofit youth club in the Bronx. Neither man was charged in the case.

A Guam judge placed Montvel-Cohen under house arrest. A hearing is set for June 27.
