CBB: Trinity wins title, but misses out on history

Associated Press

GRAND CHUTE, Wis. — Trinity College failed to make history but came away as champions anyway.

The Bantams rallied for two runs in the ninth inning to take the NCAA Division III baseball title with a 5-4 win today over Johns Hopkins.

Trinity, trying to become the first team in college baseball to go undefeated for the NCAA title, lost its bid when the Blue Jays beat them 4-3 earlier in the day, but the Bantams came back to win in the double-elimination tournament.

In the decisive game, Trinity (45-1) scored on a pair of bases-loaded walks in the top of the ninth to win its first baseball championship.

In the opening game, Johns Hopkins (42-8) scored the go-ahead run in the opening game on a wild pitch in the top of the ninth to snap Trinity's record-setting 44-game winning streak.
