Advertiser Staff

Realtor Sylvia K. Berrington, who pleaded guilty to six counts of willful failure to file annual general excise tax returns for the years 2000 through 2005, was granted a deferred acceptance of guilty plea today by District Judge Faye K. Koyanagi.

Berrington was fined $9,000 and assessed court fees. She failed to pay $25,739 of taxes owed on her general excise returns, according to state criminal tax investigator Stephen Hironaka.

Conviction of willful failure to file a return carries a fine of up to $25,000 and/or imprisonment or probation of up to one year.
